Some other things that I've made

One of my friends mentioned the other day that I didn't have very many pics on here of all the projects I've worked on.  I guess I never put them on here because a lot of them were done before I started this blog. So.....here are some pics.  :)

 Large pompom balls.  We play catch, dodge pompom, etc. Very soft, and kid friendly!

 Don't really know what to call this..um a happy knitting accident that ended up as a knitted slip cover over an ovaltine container that my kids use for all sorts of stuff.

Eastertime

We are so blessed to have such wonderful people in our girls lives. People who take the time, make the effort, and make everything so special for our daughters. You make our life so wonderful just by being in it. Thank you to all of you, and I hope everyone had as awesome of a holiday as we did!

Tea and Turtles

We took the girls to a musical this weekend at the high school.  They did Beauty and the Beast this year, and the girls really seemed to enjoy it.  To promote the musical, they had "Tea with Belle" the weekend prior. The girls got to meet the cast, ask questions, have "tea" (apple juice) and snacks, make a crown, and Belle read them a story.  It was really cute!

Also this weekend, we had lots of smoothies, I made waffles, we played a lot of Katamari, went to the playground, had cookout, met a wonderful girl, and I worked on the stuffed turtles for the girls.

They're coming along slow but sure.  Hopefully I will have time to finish them this week!  Hope everyone had a great weekend too!

Valentine's Day

I don't really think much of Valentine's Day.  I think that the sentiment is nice, however I don't really think a special holiday to let people know you love them is really necessary. Shouldn't you show one another every day?  With that being said, my children think that every holiday (even Valentine's) is wonderful.  So of course, J and I make sure to make it special for them.  This year, both of the girls were old enough to go to the father daughter dance.

It was the littlest's first dance so we got a "grown up" necklace for her, like we had for her sister.  She was so excited!

We spent the weekend together.  The girls went outside to play, had hot cocoa, and I ended up reading Charlie and the Chocolate factory to them.  I thought we would start it, but they wanted me to keep going, and we ended up finishing it!

This morning they woke up to heart shaped baskets with little trinkets in them, and boxes of chocolate, which they were super excited about. They were more excited about giving out the valentines gifts that they had made though.



C sewed a pillow for her dad all by herself that she was really proud of, and A made a pic for her sis out of felt and buttons and she was so happy she was finally able to give it to her today.

They came home with a ton of candy from their class parties, and while they were at school, I made them the Scottish shortbreads that they love.  I think we are pretty stocked for sweets....and I think that we all had a very nice day, and hope all of our family and friends did as well!

It's been awhile..

The kids and I have been sick, back and forth, for the past few weeks. Otherwise, it has been a nice winter so far. Jeromy's back to school, but he had a good month off and we all had a great time!

There hasn't been a lot of snow until just recently. No white Christmas this year, but a good time was had by all. Wonderful visits from family and friends. Lots of gifts, cookies, hugs, crafts, and stories!

It was so warm, the girls even went for a walk Christmas morning with their aunt and uncle!

School and other things

Well it's official. BOTH of my kids are in school now, and I just can't believe it!  They both had great first days.  They love ALL their teachers, bus drivers, etc. so things are good.  They were both nervous about their first day, especially my littlest.  She said she was excited about going, but she didn't want to go without me.  I had come across a few good ideas, like sending your child in with a little felt heart that they can put in their pocket, or a family picture etc. However, I know my children, and they would definately drop or misplace something like that, potentially resulting in a meltdown. Sooooo, I made them little flowers for their backpacks and sewed them on.

My oldest wanted some sort of decoration for her backpack anyways, and I thought this would be perfect.  I used the pattern from Mollie Makes, but changed the size, and added more in the middle.

I used a mixture of school glue and glitter glue diluted with water on the felt before hand, to give it some sparkle and more stability.

Then I added some ribbon, and sewed it already on the backpack loop, and added a cute little button.  I suppose the idea of sewing it on isn't for everyone, but unless someone cuts it, they are not coming off, so I don't have to worry about the kids getting upset.  You could also make the ribbon shorter and sew it onto a keyring for a gift.

The girls were so surprised and absolutely loved them!  When they came home, both of them said that when they looked at the flowers, they thought of me and they weren't so lonely. Mission accomplished!

They seem to like all the things I have made for them, better than the store bought stuff still. Especially my oldest.  I hope that as they get older, they will still share my love of homemade...

Only time will tell.
